Low-Maintenance Tiles That Still Look Luxe

Writer: Brandi LeBrandi Le

(Yes, you can have both style and simplicity.)

If you're planning a renovation or building a new space, there’s a good chance you've already asked yourself this question:

“Will these tiles be hard to keep clean?”

It’s one of the most common concerns we hear at The Tile House — and with good reason. Between busy schedules, pets, kids, and the hustle of everyday life, the last thing anyone wants is to spend their weekends scrubbing grout or wiping down high-gloss surfaces that show every fingerprint.

But here’s the great news: you don’t have to choose between style and practicality. Today’s tile options are not only gorgeous — they’re also built for real life.

Here’s how you can get a luxe look with low-maintenance peace of mind:

1. Go for Porcelain Over Natural Stone

Natural stone like marble or slate is stunning, but it tends to be more porous and requires sealing and special cleaners. Porcelain tiles, on the other hand, offer the same elegance — especially in marble- or stone-look styles — but with wayless upkeep. They’re durable, stain-resistant, and don’t require sealing.

Bonus: Porcelain tiles work beautifully in high-traffic areas and are great for kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways.

2. Choose Matte or Textured Finishes

Glossy tiles can look sleek and modern, but they tend to show water spots, smudges, and streaks — especially in bathrooms or kitchens. Matte tiles, or ones with a subtle texture, tend to hide dirt and dust better and require less frequent cleaning.

If you love the look of a polished finish but don’t want the high maintenance, consider using it in lower-touch areas like backsplashes or decorative accents.

3. Consider Large Format Tiles

Fewer tiles mean fewer grout lines. And fewer grout lines mean less scrubbing!

Large format tiles (think 12"x24" or bigger) give a seamless, upscale look that also makes cleaning a breeze. They’re especially great for bathroom floors and walls where moisture and soap buildup are common.

4. Pick the Right Grout (And Color!)

Grout can make or break the low-maintenance dream. Bright white grout looks clean and fresh on day one — but let’s be honest, it can be hard to keep that way. Instead, consider mid-tone or dark grout colors that camouflage daily wear.

Also ask about epoxy or stain-resistant grout options, which can help prevent discoloration and are easier to wipe down.

5. Ask Us for Recommendations Based on Your Lifestyle

At The Tile House, we don’t just sell tiles — we help you make smart choices for your life. Whether you’ve got muddy paws running through the house, teens leaving toothpaste trails, or just want to clean less and live more, we’ve got low-maintenance options that still bring that wow factor.
